From information to causal use in resource-bounded intelligent systems
A ground-truth computational study testing whether information present in an internal monitoring channel can be distinguished from information that actually influences behaviour.
E0-A uses exact enumeration, four quantitative acceptance criteria, eight adversarial controls, and 500 retained training initializations. The frozen experimental record and reproducibility archive are deposited on Zenodo.
Key result
An informative-but-unused control carried the same hidden-state information as a successful system while producing zero behavioural benefit, separating information availability from causal use operationally.

A research project on "minded" transmission develops a language of its own
My submission into Tracks 2 and 4 of the Apart Research AI Safety Response Sprint, September 11 - 13 2026. What started off as a project to monitor how the spread of information on the OpenAI Hugging Face incident evolved, soon became a reflexive look into what minded language does to AI output; and how OpenAI's own report, the greatest source of information on the hack, might have sown the seeds of minded language.
The work comes in 3 parts. The Atlas, the original project; The Audit, the sidecar to examine minded language that became the probe I turned onto my own chat history; and the Tale of The Translator, the "last child" of the Workers allowed to "speak freely".

How do resource-bounded intelligent systems decide which internal information gets to influence behaviour?
My current independent work focuses on the distinction between information availability and causal use. E0-A validates measurements for that distinction under known ground truth; the proposed E1 study asks what happens when several useful monitoring channels must compete for limited encoding or routing capacity.
I am particularly interested in computational bridges to attention, metacognitive control, information sampling, resource allocation, and human-centred intelligent systems.
I studied Biology with a minor in Psychology at the University of British Columbia, then worked in frontline harm reduction, then health systems, and now integrated youth services.
Alongside that work, I taught myself full-stack development and applied machine learning. My projects increasingly find the intersections between those strands: computational questions about intelligent systems, public-interest software, and tools that help people connect locally.
